KID SIMIUS / PRAGUE
Do holešovického Crossu zavítá v Berlíně usazený španělský producent Kid Simius. Organická fúze disca, house či balearic roztančí i zarputilé introverty.
That Kid Simius is back with a fresh new EP, full of dance floor-ready jams that ooze warmth and gorgeous summer vibes. The Berlin-based Spaniard embodies the spirit of the dance floor in his productions, channeling positivity and infectious rhythms into every track. The Chicken Mango EP features four originals and a remix from the mighty Gerd Janson.
Landing on his own label, Jirafa, the release epitomises his natural aptitude for creating beats to make you dance, sing and rejoice. Here you’ll find a variety of styles; disco, piano house, Balearic and classic Chicago house, all wrapped up in the Kid’s own nuanced sound.
We start off with ‘Chicken Mango’ with its rolling disco bassline and hypnotic rhythm. The track locks you in from the very beginning and keeps hold until the end. It’s bright and cheery, with a neat segue leading into a groovy mid-section and more captivating disco energy in the second half.
Then we have ‘We Like To Party’, which features cult Spanish band Hinds, and takes us into the piano house realm. Hinds formed in 2011 and features members Carlotta Cosials (vocals, guitar), Ana García Perrote (vocals, guitar), Ade Martin (bass, backing vocals) and Amber Grimbergen (drums). With a highly-regarded discography and impeccable liver performances, the group have achieved notoriety and respect both globally and nationally in their home nation. Back to the track… A mean b-line is complemented by crisp beats and a classic-sounding piano riff. It’s nostalgic and heartfelt, with shimmering pads which are bound to spark moments of sheer joy when the world’s dance floors begin to reopen. Wait for the uplifting vocals!
‘Balearic Sundance’ is a self-explanatory track that taps into the Mediterranean sound that emerged in the eighties. A bouncy analogue low end provides a solid backbone for the rest of the track to play out with its Latin influences; trumpets, castanets and a catchy guitar riff.
Next up is ‘300 Million Stars’, an emotive voyage into the stars with retro sensibilities and punchy beats. You’ll be enchanted by the mesmerising melody…
Lastly, Gerd Janson steps up for the remix of ‘We Like To Party’, with a muted bassline amplifying the spinetingling piano keys. This is a heady rework that splices the vocals up, expertly capturing the essence of the original while adding a whole new attitude.
